Becoming Woodshed

About the band

WOODSHED is a Country Folk band from Western, MA. The members are Jason Wood, A.J. Kiernan, Karen Gallant and Mike St. Germain; four musical friends who found each other through a love of music and mutual admiration. The band has been playing together since late Fall of 2023, with St.Germain (Upright Bass Guitar) joining towards the end of 2024. This band loves blending together their unique brand of three part harmony mixed with musical emotions, leaving audiences always craving more.

The four friends all met due to the magic of local open mics; Wood and Kiernan had seen and heard each other, but hadn't connected. The pair finally decided to test the waters at a local open mic with great success. Still, nothing started...yet. Gallant; (singer/songwriter/percussionist) came later. In fact, the talented band member had only started to play music a few years ago at an open mic. This one happened to be co-hosted by Kiernan, which is how the pair met. (Gallant herself now plays in 3 local bands because of this connection and sits in with musicians from all walks of life.) Wood, Kiernan and Gallant finally decided in 2023 to see what could come of their writing and performing together. Not long after, St. Germain got to know his new band family from the same open mic Kiernan and Gallant still run today. After hearing the bass player jam, they knew they needed to ask him to come with.

After several successful rehearsals, they knew this was indeed 'gonna be a thing'. During one rehearsal, Kiernan presented the band with a fitting name that came to mind.

"What about calling ourselves 'The Woodshed Project'? Wood is in your name, [speaking to Wood] and I like the image of the band in the shed." They all agreed, and started their journey.  After about 5 gigs Wood had his own great idea.

"Project sounds like we're still figuring it out. We know who we are. Let's just be Woodshed." The rest of the band heartily agreed. The rest as they say, is history.

The band's popularity in the MA area is definitely picking up, with them booking shows as often as possible. The songwriting is more cohesive than ever now, with new hits being performed and perfected regularly, and with great response. Now the happy foursome is looking to get into the studio, working on an upcoming project with Ghost Hit Recording in September of 2025. Though they have hundreds of songs between them, this will be their first EP, with just 5 songs on the menu to start. Radio stations and venues alike have all clamored for material to stream and share, and Woodshed now aims to deliver.

"We wanted to bring the audience something really great. It took a while to find the right spot," began Kiernan; Singer/Songwriter and Guitar player "but we think we've got the right choice in studio and engineer in Andrew. We can't wait to get started!"

The band is looking forward to the release of their well loved material, as well as continuing to bring audiences the already familiar favorites with songs like "Hangin' Tree", "If I Had Known" and a recent favorite "The Hallmark Song". (If you know, you know!) A kickstarter is coming soon to help fundraise towards their studio cost as well as a live event to raise money in person. At live events the band will also be selling t-shirts, stickers and more so fans can celebrate being "Shedheads" together. (The term "Shedhead" is a loving self-imposed nickname fans have given themselves.)

And so, Woodshed keeps gigging; hoping to spread their original brand of country-folk to the world. With Love in their hearts, instruments in their hands and their band family around them, there is no sign of them slowing down anytime soon.

"I say it every day... I can't believe I get to make music with these people." Wood exclaimed. "I love these guys!"

The feeling is undoubtedly mutual.
